Collude

Journaling Prompt from Liz @WritingReader: Write about a collusion you’ve read about in the news and how it affected you emotionally.
collude verb (used without object), col·lud·ed, col·lud·ing.

  1. to act together through a secret understanding, especially with evil or harmful intent.
  2. to conspire in a fraud.
There was a horrific situation near my town recently. Two teenage boys murdered their parents and three of their younger siblings. Another two sisters survived. It was shocking, sickening and devastating. The entire town, and surrounding areas, mourned the loss of this family.  I did not know the family personally, but this was difficult to process. How could this happen? What would drive two young men (18 and 16) to do something so horrific?

In the end, you can't make sense of such madness. I pray for the two survivors and the extended family taking them in. I sent encouragement cards to the chaplains who counseled the first responders. It isn't much but it was something.
